Join Pike School of Art for a day of community engagement
Wednesday, September 5, 2018

VENUE CHANGE: Due to inclement weather, In Search of The Truth (The Truth Booth) will be on view at The Mill Event Space at 529 S. Broadway (entrance across from The Icehouse on Railroad Blvd.) from 10AM – 4PM.

McComb, MS – Pike School of Art – Mississippi invites you to the very first day of public programming at our new home, the former Pike County Juvenile Detention center at 100 5th Avenue, McComb, MS 39648 on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 10AM to 9PM. Participate in Cause Collective’s In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth), contribute your stories to CAPE’s ART + EXCHANGE PIKE COUNTY dialogue, and enjoy a free screening of Rashômon (羅生門), the preeminent film investigating the malleable nature of truth.

In Search of the Truth (The Truth Booth) is an interactive project by CAUSE COLLECTIVE, a team of artists, designers, and ethnographers creating innovative art in the public realm, and features a 15-foot high speech bubble. Inside the booth, participants are invited to make a two-minute-long video finishing the open-ended sentence “The Truth is…” The resulting videos will be compiled, edited, and accessible as a documentary film at truthbooth.com and screened at a later date at PSA-MS in McComb. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to capture Pike County’s definitions, confessions, and thoughts on the truth. PSA-MS hopes to present a diverse portrait of the county, its people, and join a global conversation.

Join Pike School of Art – Mississippi, McComb Creative Economy Partnership, Pike County Chamber of Commerce, Pike County Arts Council, and the Center for Art & Public Exchange (CAPE) at the Mississippi Museum of Art for Art + Exchange Pike County, a public dialogue to share stories, local histories, and aspirations for the community. Stories gathered will inform the future work of CAPE and could become the centerpiece of a public artwork in the community as part of a new series of artist-led, community-driven art projects funded by CAPE in locations across Mississippi.

Enjoy a free screening of director Akira Kurosawa’s classic film, Rashômon (羅生門). A riveting psychological thriller that investigates the nature of truth and the meaning of justice, Rashômon is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made. Four people give different accounts of a man’s murder and the rape of his wife, which director Akira Kurosawa presents with striking imagery and an ingenious use of flashbacks. This eloquent masterwork and international sensation revolutionized film language and introduced Japanese cinema—and a commanding new star by the name of Toshiro Mifune—to the Western world.

Cause Collective: In Search of the Truth has been generously supported by the Mississippi Humanities Council, the Alabama State Council on the Arts and The Educational Foundation of the Arts.
