Apply to be on the PSA Board
Dear Board Applicant:
Pike School of Art – Mississippi is expanding its Board of Directors, and we are looking for individuals from diverse backgrounds to become part of our leadership. Please review the information below about our organization and the application process, and then apply as soon as possible to be considered.
About Pike School of Art (PSA):
Pike School of Art – Mississippi is a young 501(c)3 nonprofit contemporary art center located in McComb in rural Southwest Mississippi. The mission of Pike School of Art – Mississippi is to enrich and empower a thriving community built by artists and allies in Southwest Mississippi. As Southwest Mississippi’s only contemporary art center, PSA-MS offers free community programming and exhibitions; artist residencies; workshops and talks; and space for art-making and discursive research. We encourage artwork and curatorial or writing projects that create articulations about the Deep South, including Mississippi and Louisiana’s history of the colonization of indigenous people. Projects about the ongoing African American struggle to achieve full participation in American society are especially welcome. Our work in arts and culture is values-based.
In 2018, PSA entered into a long-term lease agreement with the City of McComb to house the Pike School of Art in the former Pike County Youth Detention Center, and in 2020, during the COVID pandemic, PSA established its current mission and defined certain values that are used to guide the organization, including strongly valuing collaboration, understanding, respect, inclusivity, equity and unconventional spaces. The Mississippi Arts Commission awarded PSA a $260,000 building fund grant in 2023 to support the renovation of the Youth Detention Center, we have hired an executive director, and we are now in the process of expanding our Board of Directors.
Why Apply for a PSA Board Position:
If you are interested in making a difference for your community by working to build and support the McComb Arts & Entertainment District; repurposing the Youth Detention Center as a community art center; and bringing kids, teens and adults together to create art, support art exhibits, and learn from artists in residence, then we encourage you to apply for one of PSA’s new Board of Director positions.
PSA Application Process:
To apply, fill out the form below. Applications will be reviewed by the current board members, and finalists will be interviewed before new board members are selected.
