Project: Indoor Mural – Southwest Broadcasting, 206 N Front St, McComb, MS
Artist/Artist Team Stipend: $500 
Deadline: Monday, October 16, 2023, 5:00 pm CST 

Project Summary 
Pike School of Art — Mississippi seeks to commission a professional visual artist or artist team to design and paint a mural in honor of Mrs. Fern Crossley on one interior wall of Southwest Broadcasting, 206 N Front St, McComb, Mississippi. 

Wall dimensions: 10 feet high by between 13 and 19 feet wide
The artist may use the whole wall or just the 10 feet high by 13 feet wide section 

The artist stipend for this project is $500, and materials for the project will be provided by Pike School of Art — Mississippi. The application deadline is Monday, October 16, 2023, 5:00 pm CST. 

Project Background and Goals 
The subject of this mural is Mrs. Fern Crossley, a local radio talent who hosted “Community Focus” from the studios located at Southwest Broadcasting. Mrs. Crossley was also a treasured member of the Pike School of Art — Mississippi’s Board of Directors.

This location is in the waiting area outside of hers and other radio personalities’ studios and in a high traffic area with lots of visibility. 

The goals of this mural project are: 

∙ To beautify and add character to Southwest Broadcasting
∙ Add to a  growing collection of public art in the McComb Arts & Entertainment District

The project should meet the following objectives: 

∙ To create a mural that represents the spirit of Mrs. Fern Crossley 
∙ To create a mural that is colorful and inspiring 

Artist Eligibility 

Preference will be given to artists or artist teams who have prior experience in mural/large-scale  artworks and prior experience in the creation of public art. 

Evaluation Criteria 

The selection of an artist, or artist team, will be based on the following criteria: 

∙ Artist’s qualifications 
∙ Prior experience with community engagement projects

Budget 

The total amount to be paid to the artist is a stipend is $500, inclusive of the design and painting process. This does not include paint, brushes, lifts, etc. as these items will be  provided by Pike School of Art — Mississippi  in a quantity and quality agreed upon by both parties.

Deadline for submission of proposals 

October 17 – November 3, 2023
Review, selection, and contracting of the artist/artist team

December 2023
Painting of the mural and dedication 

Submission Guidelines 

Artist submissions must include the following information: 

Contact Information (resume and artist statement are helpful and encouraged.)

Examples of other relevant works and/or reviews of similar work. Maximum of 5 images. Please send each image as a .jpg and label with the artist’s last name, image number and image title. For example: Smith_01.jpg, Smith_02.jpg, etc. Images must be 1028×728 pixels (or smaller) and  at least 72 dpi
